Philip Roth's Indignation launches in Suttons Bay
|
|
We are proud to have been chosen as the only store in Michigan where "America's Greatest Living Author" will launch what may be his last novel.
On September 16th at 8pm in Suttons Bay High School Auditorium, we'll host an interactive webcast of Philip Roth interviewed by author Ben Taylor in New York. There are only 52 stores n the whole country who have this honor and we are delighted to be amongst them.
We have a limited number of signed first editions of Indignation available. We guarantee a signed first edition, plus premium seating at the Indignation Day event for $30.Admission only is $10.
All prices include Sales tax - it's easier that way.
If you can't make the event you can still get a signed first edition of Indignation. We are holding back some for our out-of-town visitors. We will ship your copy to you for the same flat price of $30.
Call or email us with your ticket of book order. This will sell out fast - We had people waiting at the door the morning after our email went out. We're even getting orders from Europe! And not just from people related to me!
Roth backlist now in store
This is where we had the most fun. We scoured the distributors to find the great man's back list tiles. These are new, paperback versions of books you know but have missed - primarily because you may not have been born when they were written.
As always we don;t charge shipping on any order over $10 - so that includes the Roth back list.
Act fast - we don't have many of these.
Thank you for doing your bit to make sure that a literary store thrives here in Northern Michigan See you at the store!

And the Hippos Were Boiled in Their Tanks
by
Burroughs, William S.,
Kerouac, Jack
Unlike most rediscovered works by well-known authors, this collaboration between two of the best-known Beat writers is well done and extremely readable. Based on actual events and told in alternating chapters, this will not disappoint fans of either writer.--Carol Schneck, Schuler Books (Okemos, MI) |

The Story of Edgar Sawtelle
by
Wroblewski, David
Born mute, speaking only in sign, Edgar Sawtelle leads an idyllic life with his parents on their farm in remote northern Wisconsin. For generations, the Sawtelles have raised and trained a fictional breed of dog whose thoughtful companionship is epitomized by Almondine, Edgar's lifelong friend and ally. But with the unexpected return of Claude, Edgar's paternal uncle, turmoil consumes the Sawtelles' once peaceful home. When Edgar's father dies suddenly, Claude insinuates himself into the life of the farm--and into Edgar's mother's affections. Grief-stricken and bewildered, Edgar tries to prove Claude played a role in his father's death, but his plan backfires--spectacularly. Forced to flee into the vast wilderness lying beyond the farm, Edgar comes of age in the wild, fighting for his survival and that of the three yearling dogs who follow him. But his need to face his father's murderer and his devotion to the Sawtelle dogs turn Edgar ever homeward. David Wroblewski is a master storyteller, and his breathtaking scenes--the elemental north woods, the sweep of seasons, an iconic American barn, a fateful vision rendered in the falling rain--create a riveting family saga, a brilliant exploration of the limits of language, and a compulsively readable modern classic. |
