Wednesday, September 13th, 2017
"So Matilda’s strong young mind continued to grow, nurtured by the voices of all those authors who had sent their books out into the world like ships on the sea. These books gave Matilda a hopeful and comforting message: You are not alone."
— Roald Dahl, Matilda
Born on this day in 1916, Roald Dahl has been called "one of the greatest storytellers for children of the 20th century." His books have sold more than 250 million copies worldwide. Several, including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, and James and the Giant Peach, have been made into major motion pictures. Though he died in 1990, his legacy of making childrens' lives better through the power of the imagination lives on.
“I have a passion for teaching kids to become readers, to become comfortable with a book, not daunted. Books shouldn't be daunting, they should be funny, exciting and wonderful; and learning to be a reader gives a terrific advantage.”
— Roald Dahl
