Kazuo Ishiguro: 2017 Nobel Laureate!
Thursday, October 5th, 2017
British writer Kazuo Ishiguro has been selected as the recipient of the 2017 Nobel Prize for Literature. Though something of a surprise pick (the writers favored to win this year's prize included Margaret Atwood and Haruki Murakami), Ishiguro's award-winning body of work has garnered critical attention and acclaim since his first book, A Pale View of Hills, was published in 1982. The award was announced by the Swedish Academy's Permanent Secretary, Professor Sara Danius, who noted that Ishiguro is a writer "who, in novels of great emotional force, has uncovered the abyss beneath our illusory sense of connection with the world."
