Halloween Reads for All Ages

Friday, October 23, 2015 - Jonathan Elliot

We love the build up to Halloween.  Here in Northern Michigan it signals not only the inexorable march of fall, but the coming of our winter, which can be long, cold and harsh.  Cozying up with a good Halloween read as the nights draw in is just the thing.

Whether you're looking for fun and spooky Halloween books for the kids, or a seriously scary tale, we have what you need.

We've compiled the very best, here!

An Early Rave Review in Publisher's Weekly

Thursday, October 22, 2015 - Sara Grochowski

This week our Children's Specialist, Sara, wrote a piece for Publisher's Weekly highly recommending the upcoming January novel, Anna and the Swallow Man. The novel, Gavriel Savit's debut, will be published by Knopf Books for Young Readers, but it was also shopped among interested adult publishers. Readers who enjoyed Markus Zusak's The Book Thief will find much to love in Anna and the Swallow Man.

In the column, Sara writes about the experience of reading Anna and the Swallow Man:

I read passages aloud to my family and highlighted sentences that sang so loudly and rang so true that I was left teary-eyed.

And about author Gavriel Savit's mastery of language:

He’s a talented wordsmith, wielding words and sentences with a precision that allows them to wriggle deep into this reader’s heart, leaving me both enchanted and brokenhearted.

You can find Sara's full column here.

Pre-order you copy of Anna and the Swallow Man, available January 26th, 2016, here.

James, who currently lives in Minneapolis, Minn., is the first Jamaican-born writer to win the Booker.
