A Blind Date with a Book
You've probably heard of blind dates with books before: books wrapped in brown paper with a few keywords or a review on the outside to indicate what kind of surprise the reader might be in for. It can be a fun way to discover something new or read outside your comfort zone, but like many actual blind dates, things don't always work out. Those few keywords might have left out something important to you as a reader, and you may unknowingly pass up a title you'd love when a review doesn't spark your interest.
That's why we work in the other direction. Instead of finding the right person for a given book, we find the right book for any given person. That's how we choose the "surprise" books for Brilliant Books Monthly: by taking your personal preferences into account.
Each subscription begins with a welcome box, which contains, among other bookish goodies, our comprehensive preferences card. This is what allows our expert booksellers to individually select books they know you'd love. Even though you won't know what title is headed your way each month, you can be sure you're going to enjoy it. And, if we miss the mark, these blind dates come with something no other date does: a guarantee. If we choose something you've already read, or that isn't to your taste, we'll try again.
Not only is Brilliant Books Monthly the perfect blind date, it's also the perfect gift! This Valentine's Day, give your sweetheart a gift that lasts longer than roses or chocolate. Give them the best year of reading they've ever had!

#1 For someone who likes laid back stories and maybe some humor. Light and fun reading.
#2 For someone who lives for gritty, hard-boiled stories and isn't really a fan of the mainstream thrillers that hit the bestseller list every other week.
#3 For someone super busy and overscheduled, who's looking for pure escapism in small bites.
#4 For someone who likes finely crafted writing, especially in translation. A fan of complex, though-provoking work that can be savored.
#5 For someone just in it for the story, who wants a thrilling, exciting, un-put-downable summer blockbuster of a book.
#6 For someone who's a fan of American historical biographies and memoirs, but might be open to trying something a little different.
#7 For someone who prefers slow and thoughtful stories, maybe with a bit of impossibility, but nothing too fanciful; a fan of female writers.
#8 For someone who prefers nonfiction, but more on the narrative side; someone who's outdoorsy and likes to read about far off places.
#9 For someone who loves a good retelling, as long as it's smart and unexpected.
