How does Brilliant Books Monthly work?
Once you've subscribed to our Brilliant Books Monthly, you'll receive a paper preferences card that will ask about your favorite authors, genres, styles, etc. When you've filled this out and returned it, we'll assign a bookseller who shares your reading interests to select your books, and before long, your first selection will be arriving in the mail. Can I complete the preferences online?
There is no emailed or online version of the reading preferences card. The selections are made by real people choosing books based on individual selections. Because the preferences card asks for indication across a range, the handwritten element becomes an essential part of the process. We can see how enthusiastically someone indicates that they love a particular author or genre, or conversely, how much they might loathe it. Back to Top
Can I give a Brilliant Books' Monthly Book Club subscription as a Gift?
Absolutely! It makes a great gift for Christmas, birthdays, Valentine's Day, Mother's and Father's Day, or just because! If you want to present your gift in person, we'll mail a welcome pack directly to you. This includes a preferences card for your recipient to complete, and an attractive card presenter for easy gifting.
If you'd rather, we can also send the welcome packet straight to the intended recipient, complete with special message from you. Just let us know what you'd like to say in the order comments at checkout.
When ordering a Monthly Book Club subscription as a gift, please only include your own contact information, or we might accidentally thank the recipient for buying the gift. The only exception to this is the 'ship to' address if you want the welcome packet to be mailed directly to the recipient. Back to Top
Are there kids' subscriptions to Brilliant Books' Monthly Book Club?
Can I make special requests?
You can! If, for example, your favorite author has a new book coming out, or you're heading out on vacation next month and would love a travel guide, you can request that title for your next book. There are some limitations to this. For example, you can't request hardcovers if your subscription is for paperbacks. We also don't allow special requests for each book in your subscription. Specially requested titles are not eligible for exchanges. Back to Top
I just got my latest book, but it's one I've already read! What do I do?
Let us know and we'll immediately send a replacement, along with a pre-paid mailing label with which to return the unwanted book. Books are eligible for replacement or exchange only until your next selection is sent, so please let us know immediately if there are any problems with your book. Books that you specifically request are not eligible for replacement or exchange. Back to Top
The book I received doesn't align with my tastes at all. Can I get something different?
Yes. Because we guarantee every selection, if we've just missed the mark, we'll send you a new one. Just let us know and we'll immediately send a replacement title, along with a pre-paid mailing label with which to return the unwanted book. Books are eligible for replacement or exchange only until your next selection is sent, so please let us know immediately if we've sent something you don't like, and why you don't like it. That feedback will help ensure all our future picks will be spot on. Back to Top
Can I get books every other month, rather than monthly?
Yes, of course. We are happy to tailor your book club subscription to meet your needs. It is a personal subscription service. Back to Top
How do I change my address?
Just send us a quick email and we can take care of that change. If you regularly switch addresses (say, between summer and winter homes, or a college address and a home address), let us know which months of the year we can reach you at each address, and we'll make the switch automatically, no additional email required! Help! I've got too many books to read!
We've all been there. If your to-be-read pile is getting a little tall, you can always pause your subscription at any time. Take as long as you need, and we'll start back up again when you're ready. Back to Top
What if my book doesn't arrive?
We'll email a tracking number for each book that goes out so you can keep track of when it will be arriving. If it your book has been lost in transit, we can replace it at no charge. Note that correctly addressed shipments returned to us by the Postal Service as ‘Undeliverable’ may be subject to shipping and administration charges. If your package has been marked 'Delivered' by the Postal Service, but doesn't seem to have arrived, please contact your local post office, as we have no authority to track items after delivery. Why Don't You Call It Brilliant Book of the Month?
Our service used to be called Brilliant Book of the Month but now we're not allowed to use that name. Seriously. Yes, we too thought "Book of the Month" was pretty much ubiquitous, until we received a Cease and Desist from Bookspan, the folks who apparently own the name. Now Brilliant Books is the only bookstore in America not allowed to have a "Book of the Month Club." Back to Top
