BATS Denounces the Flying Foxers

Masked bandits strike again at one local bookstore, damaging dozens of books.  The group taking credit is known as the Flying Foxers, a group of vigilante booksellers out to end the phenonmenon of "trick spines," or books designed in such a way that the front cover art does not intuitively match the spine.

The BATS Brigade: News from the Streets

Via Channel 2&38 News:

Protests filled the streets outside publishing houses and bookstores nationwide today as members of the organization known as Booksellers Against Trick Spines (BATS) took to the streets.  The date was significant.  New books are typically released on Tuesdays, and this week's batch included a number of designs featuring trick spines, or designs on the spine of the book that do not intuitively match the front cover art.

Spine Spotting

One of the most common questions we get from non-booksellers is "how big a problem is trick spines, really?"  To help others understand the struggle that booksellers face on a daily basis, we asked a group of booksellers at Brilliant Books in Traverse City, Michigan, to photograph each trick spine they came across in the course of searching for books one morning.  Can you spot the books in question?
