Current Hours and Pandemic Precautions

Pandemic Policies

The CDC and Michigan government have issued new guidelines that no longer recommend requiring fully vaccinated people to wear a mask in public places.  However, neither has provided guidelines about how we can verify vaccination status, so until those details are resolved, all customers over the age of two are still required to wear a mask over nose and mouth while in Brilliant Books.  We will review our policies in the coming weeks see if it's appropriate for us to relax our policies given our situation, but we want to take a moment to review all the appropriate state, local, and CDC guidelines to make sure we're making science-based decisions and keeping our staff and customers as safe as possible.

  • Masks are required for all staff and visitors over the age of two regardless of vaccination status.  If you cannot or prefer not to wear a mask, please place your order online or over the phone for curbside pickup.

  • Hand sanitizer is recommended for all visitors, as we know it's tough to browse books without touching them!  You're welcome to use your own sanitizer, but we have it available throughout the store as well.

  • Please refrain from eating or drinking while in the store.

  • Our store capacity is limited to maintain social distancing, so we encourage visitors to schedule an appointment to reserve your time in the store.  Walk-ins are also welcome.

  • Keep your visit brief—under fifteen minutes is best.  Ask a bookseller to help you find the books you're looking for, or to make recommendations, so you can be on your way and limit the risk to both our staff and yourself.

  • These rules are in effect even if you're vaccinated!

Store & Curbside Pickup Hours

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Brilliant Books hours may fluctuate.  Thank you for your support and understanding.

*If you are not able to collect your curbside order during the listed hours, please contact us and we will arrange for an alternative pickup time that fits your schedule.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I have to wear a mask if I'm vaccinated?

While vaccinations offer us a path toward normalcy, until we reach widespread immunity levels, CDC guidelines still reccommend that even vaccinated individuals maintain all precautions (like masking, social distancing, and using hand sanitizer) when in public spaces, and we use CDC guideliness to establish our own policies.

How will we know if your schedule changes?

While we plan to maintain our current schedule for the time being, that could change at any moment.  Regardless of state restrictions, we have a responsibility to our staff and customers to keep everyone safe while shopping with us, and if we feel we can't offer that with our doors open, we will switch to alternative methods.  Any time we make changes, we will announce them via email (if you're not on our list, now's a great time to join!), as well as here on the website.  Our current hours and policies are listed here, and will be updated as soon as decisions are finalized and our staff notified of any changes.

Are you offering curbside pickup?

Yes!  We hope to continue this indefinitely, pandemic or not.  As long as current pandemic regulations permit curbside pickup for items other than those critical to life (like food and medicine), and as long as we're permitted to have more than one person here on site, we will continue to offer contactless curbside pickup for orders large and small.  If you're picking up an order curbside, please make sure to put your mask on before our booksellers bring out your order. Check out all the details, plus curbside-specific FAQ!

Why can't I get someone on the phone?

Probably because we're already on the other line, unfortunately.  Our call volume is extremely high, and there's simply no way to answer every call as it comes in.  Whenever possible, we prefer you contact us via email at, but if you must call in, please leave a detailed message and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.  Please don't try to contact us in multiple ways hoping to get a quicker response.  That clogs up our inbox and voicemail with extra messages and makes it tough to get through them quickly.

I've emailed you and haven't heard back.  When will I get a response?

Understandably, we're also getting a lot of emails right now, and our staff are spread out across multiple locations, so getting your question to the right person sometimes takes a bit of coordination.  If you've sent us an email or left us a voicemail, please be assured that it's in the queue and we're working to get you the answers to your questions as quickly as possible.  Again, please don't try to contact us in multiple ways hoping to get a quicker response.  That clogs up our inbox and voicemail with extra messages and makes it tough to get through them quickly.

I have a tracking number for a package I ordered, but it doesn't seem to be going anywhere!  What's going on?

The US postal service is experiencing outages in tracking capabilities nationwide, as well as significant delays in shipping time.  If you've received tracking information from us, your package has left our building and is on its way, but tracking may not be accurate due to those outages.  It might take a little extra time for things to arrive, but we can assure you they're on the way!

If the store has to close due to quarantine or lockdown, will I still get my orders?

Yes, absolutely.  If a shelter-in-place order requires us to limit on-site staff to a single person, however, it will likely take longer to get packages out the door, so please be patient.
