Don Lystra "Something That Feels Like Truth" Book Launch Party

Something That Feels Like Truth

Don Lystra

Saturday, September 7th at 7 - 9pm

Please join us as we host Don Lystra for the launch of his acclaimed short story collection, Something That Feels Like Truth.

Scheduled to be the National Writers' Series Author Next Door in November, and slated for a profile interview on IPR later this year, you can catch this rising star in person as he releases what Booklist is calling a "stellar collection of masterfully crafted gems."

Raised in cities and small towns around Michigan, Donald Lystra received degrees in electrical engineering and sociology from the University of Michigan. He worked on electrical power plants before beginning to write fiction in the mid-1990s. His first novel, Season of Water and Ice, captured both the Midwest Book Award and the Michigan Notable Book Award in 2010. He has received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the MacDowell Colony, where he was honored with the Gerald Freund award for emerging writers. His short fiction has received Special Mention in the Pushcart Prizes. Lystra and his wife divide their time between Ann Arbor and a farm in northern Michigan. He has two grown children.

We will have Brilliante sparkling wine from Bel Lago Wineries and award-winning raclette from Leelanau Cheese, as well as everything else you'd expect from a Brilliant Books launch party.

“The beauty of these stories and their landscapes – physical and emotional – will surprise you.”
- BONNIE JO CAMPBELL, author of Once Upon a River

“Lystra’s stories are marvelous vehicles of plainspoken power.”
- LARRY WATSON, author of Montana 1948 and American Boy
