The State Theater is a venue near and dear to Michael's heart. The State originally opened as the Lyric Theatre on July 4, 1916 and was defunct for many years before Michael spearheaded the effort to restore it to its former glory. The independent movie house is now a major anchor of the downtown area and is run as a volunteer-based, charitable non-profit organization.
