Kids Books for Native American Heritage Month
November is Native American Heritage Month!
This month we celebrate the lives, histories, and cultures of Indigenous American individuals, communities, and tribes.
We'd like to acknowledge that Brilliant Books is located on the traditional land of the Odawa/Ottowa nation. Indigenous people lived on and cared for this land long before it was taken from them—and they're still here. Native people are your neighbors, friends, and colleages; they are business owners, artists, and artisans. If you're not aware of the history of your land, its people, and the treaties that have shaped it, we recommend you take a moment and find out. Learn about the Native American communities around you, and find out how you can support them.
One important piece of supporting Indigenous individuals and communities is raising awareness and educating people—and that begins with chidren. That's why today we're sharing our favorite kids' books by Native authors and exploring Indigenous stories & themes. Share these books with a young reader in your life to tell indigenous stories, celebrate Native excellece, and start conversations about issues that Native people face—and the ways in which Indigenous people have persevered.
