Our Top Bestsellers of 2018
#10. One of our Staff Favorites, this modern riff on the golden age, Agatha-Christie-style murder mystery was a hit in hardcover, and an even bigger bestseller once the paperback was released in March.
#9. The cover re-design for the paperback release of Neil Gaiman's latest novel was so popular that the publisher also released a limited edition poster print featuring the artwork to go along with it.
#8. Another Staff Favorite, The Essex Serpent was also a big hit with subscribers to Brilliant Books Monthly. Check out Sarah Perry's new release, Melmoth, which is currently on our Staff Favorites list!
#7. The third chapter in the Charlotte Holmes mysteries was released in March, but we had the privilege of coordinating the official preorder of the book for author Brittany Cavallaro. The final book in the series, a Question of Holmes, is due out this coming March, and yes, you can preorder it now!
#6. The publishing industry learned a lot from the debacle with Fire and Fury earlier in the year: following pushback from the Trump administration, Fire and Fury was released before any of the bookstores had received their orders, making it almost instantly unavailable. When Fear went on sale, though, we had already received our order and were ready with one of the year's biggest bestsellers as soon as the release date arrived.
#5. David Grann was a featured author in this year's National Writers Series, but that's not the only reason this book was so popular—this National Book Award finalist was also among our most-requested Brilliant Books Monthly titles.
#4. It's only been on our shelves for a month and a half, but Michelle Obama's memoir rocketed to the top of bestseller list and has stayed there since. If the year were a bit longer, this one might have been our top seller!
#3. This classic book has been on our annual bestsellers list essentially since the store opened. This year, it celebrated 20 years in print!
#2. With beautiful Lake Michigan just yards away from our front door, we usually expect to see a few "lake books" on our list, but this book was popular with our customers all across the country. It also helped that author Dan Egan made several northern Michigan appearances this summer, and though his schedule didn't extend to an event at Brilliant Books, he did stop by to sign our copies on hand, which sold out almost immediately.
#1. It was no surprise when we found this book at the top of the year's bestseller list. The launch event in April featured so many of the businesses and activities found in the book's pages that many of our visitors got a good start on their Traverse City bucket lists that day. In fact, it was one of our best-attended events to date!
