#10.  We usually see at least one memoir hit our annual top ten list, and this year, Tara Westover's exploration of family and individual identity was the clear winner.  Named one of the decade's best memoirs and lauded by dozens of publications, this was definitely an unmissable read!

#9.  The long-awaited sequel to Margaret Atwood's eerily prescient The Handmaid's Tale caused quite a stir when it was released this September.  Not only was there plenty of buzz generated by the Hulu adaptation of the first book, but Amazon generated something of a scandal in the bookselling world by disregarding the strict on-sale date and putting books in customers' hands a week before the actual release.  Though our customers waited until the book was properly unveiled, it was soon flying off our shelves as well.

#8.  Our biggest author event of the year was definitely our evening with Garth Nix, where we got to celebrate the launch of his new YA release!  It was a fantastic event all around, and we were thrilled to get books to excited fans not only on the night, but in the days afterward as well!

A Gentleman in Moscow: A Novel Cover Image

#7.  This is the book that just doesn't stop.  With its seemingly endless popularity in hardcover, the paperback release was pushed back several times until, finally, we saw its release in May.  It's still a favorite with customers even now!

#6.  All good things must come to an end, including fantastic series!  Our preorder and launch for the final novel in Brittany Cavallaro's Charlotte Holmes was our biggest to date, even surpassing last year's event for The Case for Jamie.

#4.  Kids can't get enough of Dog Man!  With two new books this year, he's proven to be one of the most popular characters in our middle grade section, alongside his trusty side-kick Cat Kid!  Check out the entire series for the full scope of Dog Man's adventures.

#3.  It's back, and at the same spot on our list as last year.  This picturebook is a classic that's been on our annual bestsellers list almost every single year since the store opened (that's more than a decade!).

#2.  We frequently see books chosen as Staff Favorites in hardcover go on to top our bestseller list in paperback, and this one was no exception.  In fact, it was so popular it frequently sold out in both formats!  Of course, it probably didn't hurt that it was also listed as one of our Most Brilliant Books of 2018.

#1.  This was the book everyone was talking about all year long.  Released in fall 2018, it steadily picked up steam and by the time our summer visitors were back, this was the un-put-downable read of the season.
